KEY AREAS OF WORK IN THE PRACTICE
- Leading on the design and implementation of facilities for sport, Steve has developed and managed some highly complex schemes.
- He plays a major role in the provision of PE and sport facility advice offered to Design Teams and Project Managers nation-wide in the development of the Academies and Sports College initiatives.
- He has prepared numerous feasibility studies, options appraisals and funding bids for a broad range of clients and wide variety of projects.
- Steve has been the lead in the development of Playing Pitch Strategies.
- Specialist, short timescale, PE and school sports facility reviews for the Youth Sport Trust.
- Steve is a Chartered Landscape Architect and a Fellow of the Landscape Institute.
EXPERIENCE
- Steve has 20 years' experience working in local government in the fields of landscape architecture (both urban and rural), sports development and sport and leisure facility provision and management.
- On the sports side, he has a wealth of experience developing and managing sports facilities, both outdoor and indoor and wet and dry, and an in-depth knowledge of obtaining and managing grants for voluntary bodies.
- Steve also has extensive experience designing and developing landscape schemes for public and private housing, education establishments, land reclamation, public and country parks and urban settings. In addition, his work has included the management of libraries, castles, museums, galleries, cultural services, countryside services, parks and open spaces, allotments, and children's play areas.
- Steve established the consultancy in 1995 specialising in the development of sport and recreation facilities and strategies, sports development planning and landscape architecture. Since then, Steve Wells Associates has worked with a wide range of public, private and voluntary sector clients and has developed a number of high-profile schemes with many attracting substantial grant aid.
OTHER INTERESTS
- From 1985 to 2006, Steve was chairman and director of Landscape Services Ltd, a company he set up as the commercial arm of the Landscape Institute.
- Between 1999 and 2002, Steve sat on the Annual Review Group for the re-accreditation of the Landscape Architecture degree courses at Leeds Metropolitan University.
- He has also been an occasional lecturer at Sheffield University, Askham Bryan College, and Leeds Metropolitan University.
- Steve was the Landscape Institute's representative for the major review of PPG17.
- He is an active member of his local community and continues to represent his LEA as a Governor at his local school.
