KEY AREAS OF WORK IN THE PRACTICE
- As an Associate with Steve Wells Associates, Richard has contributed substantially to the development of the Barnsley Area Miners Welfares' Grounds Maintenance Strategy in proposing a community enterprise to continue outdoor playing facility maintenance after the withdrawal of local authority support.
- He led in the development of Hull City Council's Playing Pitch Strategy - the first to use the electronic version of Sport England's Playing Pitch Model - and has undertaken a major role in the production of the Playing Pitch Plan for Wakefield MDC.
- Richard is highly experienced in the compilation of contract tender documents, including the preparation of CAD drawings, bills of quantities and detailed specifications for the development of natural turf, all-weather and synthetic surfaces for sport, floodlighting, fencing and drainage, along with their management and aftercare.
- Contract Administrator's Representative and Planning Supervisor for Steve Wells Associates for a number of successful Football Foundation, DfES, BLF and Sport England Lottery funded projects.
- Richard has overseen schemes including the improvement, upgrading and development of new natural turf sports pitches for football, rugby, hockey, and cricket.
- Richard's specialism is the design of hard court and MUGA developments, using sand-filled and sand-dressed synthetic turf as well as polymeric surfaces, along with the development of full sized fenced and floodlit synthetic turf pitches.
EXPERIENCE
- Extensive hands-on experience in the contracting industry specialising in the design and development of high quality sports surfaces. Richard's client base has included the full range of public, private, and voluntary sector organisations, the armed forces, professional sports clubs, schools and universities.
- His particular achievements include the installation of the first fibre-reinforced winter games pitches in the world at Hull City FC in 1990; and the implementation of the first 'third generation' synthetic turf pitch in the UK developed for Middlesbrough FC.
