KEY AREAS OF WORK IN THE PRACTICE
- Chris's responsibilities with Steve Wells Associates include the preparation of funding bids to a range of sources, e.g. Sport England, NOF (BLF), the Football Foundation and the Coalfield Regeneration Trust. These have incorporated all development plans, management and business plans, and technical specifications.
- Chris has undertaken numerous feasibility studies, options appraisals and strategy developments for a wide variety of clients ranging from community groups to local authorities.
- He has developed and managed some substantial projects, seeing them through from concept development to making successful multiple funding bids through the construction period and in providing advice and guidance in facility management, programme development and budgetary control.
EXPERIENCE
- Chris has worked in sports facility management, sports development and project funding in local government for a period of twenty years. Initially, he worked in facility management in dual use facilities, sports centres and swimming pools for the London Boroughs of Bexley and Ealing.
- Formerly Sports Development Manager for Wakefield MDC responsible for a team of over twenty staff, Chris managed an innovative programme of sports development and community recreation programmes including concessionary schemes, Champion Coaching, play activities and a number of sport specific development initiatives.
- Chris was also responsible for the production of a number of strategic documents including the Authority's Sports Development Strategy and its inaugural Sport and Recreation Strategy.
- Latterly, Chris was Wakefield MDC's Project Funding Manager, responsible for attracting external funding for many Local Authority and community based projects.
- Among his successes, Chris can lay claim to the development of numerous sports projects including the development of sports centres, a water sports centre and many school and community based schemes, along with non-sport projects such as town centre redevelopment, arts and heritage initiatives.
- His responsibilities with Wakefield also included working as member of major project teams.
- Chris has extensive experience of working with the community and voluntary sector, ranging from the formulation of sports development plans and Chartermark/Clubmark applications to the development of large scale capital projects.
OTHER INTRESTS
- Chris holds a variety of coaching badges and is currently a coach at Wakefield Thornes Cricket Club.
- He is Chair of Wakefield Thornes and the Wakefield District Cricket Development Group.
- He is a keen and active sportsman, playing cricket, golf and taking part in a range of fitness activities.
